Day Press Nite film show and no show penalty policy
Dear members,
The National Day Press Nite film show at GV Great World City
on Aug 14th was a great success with well over 100 members and
guests attending.
Members and their guests enjoyed the special screening of The
Home Song Stories sponsored by Golden Village, and the hot-dog
+ popcorn + coke sponsored by the Club.
GV was pleased with the turnout and the Club will work with it
to arrange such shows again.
No show
------------------------------------
However, about a dozen members who had registered for the event
did not turn up.
The Club's management committee at its meeting on Thursday, August
17th, has decided that as stated in the event invite circular
these members will be asked to pay the no-show penalty of $20
each. This is to reimburse the Club for the special combo set
ordered for them and their guests.
These members are urged to send in the cheque to the secretariat
ASAP.
The committee has also decided that these members will not be
eligible to register for up coming events till they have paid
up the no-show penalty.
As such the registration sent in by some of these members for
the Steve Forbes talk on Sept 9, will not be accepted till the
arrears have been cleared.
Steve Forbes talk
------------------------------------
To avoid wastage, the committee has also decided that the no-show
penalty policy will also apply to the Sept 9th event. The fee
for the subsidised luncheon talk with free flow of Tiger beer,
is only $10 for members and $50 for guests.
If registered members fail to turn up, they will be asked to
pay a no-show penalty of $40 each.
As registration for the event will close on Sept 5 for the Club
to place the final lunch order with Raffles Hotel, registered
members will be able to withdraw with a valid reason by that date
if they so wish by informing the secretariat via email.
This will help the Club to make proper catering arrangements,
and avoid wastage of food and Club funds.
IDR visit
------------------------------------
Some members had indicated interest in visiting the Iskandar Development
Region (IDR) which has been in the news, to have a better understanding
of its planned development.
Malaysian High Commissioner Dato N. Parameswaran has accepted
our proposal for such a visit and will help organise the visit
provided there is sufficient interest from our journalist members.
The plan is for a full day visit on a Saturday. Starting point
will be SPH News Centre and we will travel by coach. After an
overview briefing on the IDR, we could go to the airport and the
technology hub being developed around it, visit some of the housing
projects planned with Singapore specifications, lunch at a golf
course and go to the ports in the region.
If you are interested, please let me know. Suggestions are welcome.
Mooncake festival on Sept 25
------------------------------------
Club member Daniel Quek from Cerebos will be hosting a mooncake
festival social gathering on Sept 25.
Details to come.
Best wishes,
