Diplomats’ Challenge & Golf League @ Laguna National Golf Course

Dear Golf League Members

Our next outing has been fixed at the Masters Course, Laguna National on Monday morning 15 June. Flight times will start from 7.30am.

You will recall that we won the Diplomats’ Challenge Trophy last year, after winning the annual series for the 3rd time. This quarterly event will be the 2nd in the series in 2015 and we are currently leading 1:0 after winning the first match in March.

The diplomats have negotiated a special price for the event @ $160 net and will also host lunch for members. For members of LNGC, the participation price is $45.

Press Club Captain Patrick Daniel will again pick the team to pitch our skills against the diplomats while other GL members who can play will challenge themselves in a social game to improve their league scores.

Please sign up as soon as possible with Wee at the Secretariat [email: secretariat@pressclub.org.sg ]. We are looking forward to see you again at the fairways.

Meanwhile, practise hard and keep your eye on the ball as you swing through!

Warm Regards

Dicky GOH

Press Club Data Journalism Talk – 20 May, 1pm, SPH News Centre

Dear Members

I was planning a data journalism intro talk and skills workshops with some data journalists and developers who have come together on a facebook interest group called Data Journalism SG. Then suddenly, the big news early this week: international journalist+technology enthusiasts network, Hacks/Hackers, had given the long-awaited go-ahead for the formation of a Singapore chapter! Finally!

So I present to you this collaboration with the newly-minted Hacks/Hackers Singapore Chapter, which now has an official name. We have speakers who’ll walk us through some great local and overseas examples (from the on-going Data Journalism Awards finalist shortlist announced last week) and share with us tips on how to get started in this new, exciting field of digital storytelling.

*DEMYSTIFYING DATA JOURNALISM*
*Wed 20 May 2015*
*1-2:30pm*
*T2.1 SPH News Centre*
*1000 Toa Payoh North, Singapore 318994*

Come and be wowed by the creativity and data smarts of this emerging breed of journalist-technologists who are rethinking the future of news and information. Then try your hand at the free volunteer-run monthly data skills workshops which start from Sat 23 May at Yahoo! Singapore. Be part of a digital community of professionals who seek to inspire each other, share information (and code) and collaborate to shape the future of media and journalism!

Registration info and links are in attached PDF.

Look out too for more digital journalism-themed talks for Club members in the coming months! See you!

Best wishes,
