Dear Golf League members
The Press Club keeps the Diplomats’ Challenge golf trophy for another year.
The Press Club won the final quarterly 2 games to one at the Laguna National Golf Course and will keep the Diplomats’ Challenge Trophy for
Press Club Captain Patrick Daniel was down with flu and had to take a raincheck, but a splendid performance by Spencer Robinson made sure we took the honours.
It was a nice day at the Masters Course with cloudy skies and bursts of sunshine. First off the tee box were Amb Philip Green (Australia) and Amb Manuel Talavera (Peru), pitching their skills against Edward Stanislaus (The Edge) and Paul Jacob (The Straits Times). Edward and Paul played well but were overcome by the diplomats in the last few holes.
Next off were Dicky Goh (Hindustan Times) partnering Tarun Deo (Golin) and they beat Amb Thomas Kupfer (Switzerland) and Amb Michael Witter (Germany) 3 & 2. Amb Witter arrived in Singapore recently and we look forward to him joining us regularly in the 2015 quarterly series.
So it was all square until the final flight came in. And what a rousing return to the terrace! Press Club’s golfing journo Spencer Robinson played
his best game of the year at 77 partnering Ravi Velloor (The Straits Times) and won their game 3 & 2 against Amb Jacques Werner (Netherlands) and Hon Consul of Cote-D-Viore Edward Liu. With their win, the trophy was safely in our hands with an overall score of 3 wins and one loss for the year. Congratulations to the Press Club Golf League members!
The social game was helmed by Golf Convenor Jacqueline Wu (The New Paper) with Lim Chen Ming (3Ps Consulting) and new member Benny Teo (Golf Punk).
Last but not the least, the Golf League champion of the day was Tarun (38 points) with Spenser recording 36 points and Dicky trying to catch up
with 34 points.
We had an enjoyable year with the Diplomats’ quarterly and look forward to another year of fun and camaraderie with the diplomats in 2015.
